چکیده

Since its inception, the Prosthetics Research Study has attempted to maximize retention and stabilization of residual limb musculature in the below-knee amputation . Combined with myoplastic technique, Immediate Postoperative Prosthetic fitting, training of residual limb muscles, and an appropriate definitive prosthesis, an effective, functional end organ is achieved. Clinical observation has shown that certain below-knee amputees are able to utilize their prostheses without built-in suspension (such as the PTS) or auxiliary suspension . It was hypothesized that strength and muscle development in the residual limb would facilitate prosthetic suspension. The present report provides a detailed investigation of certain parameters of muscle activity and pressure relationships within prosthetic sockets ; a preliminary report has been previously published (1) . Dynamics of a Running Below-Knee Prosthesis Compared to Those of a Normal Subject

The normal human running has been simulated by two-dimensional biped model with 7 segments. Series of normal running experiments were performed and data of ground reaction forces measured by force plate was analyzed and was fitted to some Fourier series. The model is capable to simulate running for different ages and weights at different running speeds. A proportional derivative control algorit...

Load bearing and suspension characteristics of airsplint as a temporary prosthesis.

Maximum weight bearing observed, using a static weighing scale, in above-knee amputees wearing an airsplint, with a foot, was 10 kg and in below-knee amputees 11 kg with inflation pressures of 40 mmHg. While airsplints with a foot permitted greater weight bearing before deformation occurred, the increase is judged to be of little clinical advantage. Use of an airsplint without a foot would be m...

Scotchcast P.V.C. interim prosthesis for below-knee amputees.

Adoption of newly available materials and knowledge, through trial and error experiment, sometimes can result in an increase of productivity as well as improvement of quality. This is often true in industry in general, and can also be true in the prosthetic field . This paper describes a fabrication system combining many widely used techniques (2,4,5,6) and accepted principles (3) and a few new...

Implant-Based Prosthetic Reconstruction in Patients with Congenital Ear Defects (Technical Note)

Background and aims: Loss of all or part of the ear is one of the significant defects in the head and neck area (regardless of the cause) that can result from trauma, cancer, congenital diseases, or surgery to remove benign tumors. These defects can be reconstructed with the help of surgical procedures or cosmetic prostheses. However, due to the complex structure of the ear, reconstructive surg...

Pressures in critical regions of the below-knee patellar-tendon-bearing prosthesis.

In a biomechanical analysis of the forces transmitted to an amputated limb by a below-knee patellar-tendon-bearing prosthesis, R@di% (1) showed in 1962 that the principal forces occur in the patellar ten bn, the distal anterior tibial, the latera tibial condylar, and the medial tibial condylar regions. Apparantly the design of this prosthesis was such that the forces were directed to those area...
